Computer Aided Design Drafting

Welcome

| Overview | Mission | Requirements | Student Responsibilities | Co-op Education |

Computer Aided Design Drafting professionals are responsible for the dynamic new designs of most structures and consumer products available today. In engineering and architectural offices across the country, designers have many responsibilities that will employ their ability to think “outside the box” as they find solutions to today’s design challenges.

The future of Computer Aided Design Drafting is a world not of paper drawings and printers, but of 3-dimensional rapid prototyping plotters capable of creating finished products. Engineering and manufacturing have grown into a single process where the designer at a CAD station will build the structures and products of tomorrow.

The drafters of old with their drafting boards and mechanical pencils creating drawings of buildings has given way to electronic files communicated on wireless networks to the job site laptop computer for laser-produced floor plans.

Computer Aided Design Drafting technicians are professional people working in a specialized environment as communicators and must exhibit good English and speaking skills. Designers operate in a technical field and will use higher levels of math and physics to create new industrial, commercial and business products.

Overview

The program is available only on the Lincoln Campus and admits new students every quarter. Students must earn a course grade of “C” or better in all prerequisite and program courses to continue to the next course.

The Computer Aided Design Drafting program is an eight-quarter (24-month) program. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be awarded an associate of applied science degree

Mission

Program Roll and Mission Statement:

Cooperative Education

Students at Southeast Community College may be employed by area businesses and industries and have the opportunity to "learn while  doing" through the College's Cooperative Education Experience.

Students will work in positions related to their career goals. Student objectives are established through mutual agreement by the student, the employer, and the cooperative education experience coordinator.
Progress is evaluated at designated time(s) during the period of employment.

How Cooperative Education Works

Southeast Community College's Cooperative Education Experience is designed for students who have completed specific courses in their program of study and have achieved a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0.

Coordinators work closely with employers and students to determine the optimum Cooperative Education arrangement.

The student registers for the Cooperative Education Experience and earns college credit while being paid a salary for the cooperative experience; the salary is set by the employer and agreed upon by the student.
