Building Construction Technology

Welcome

The world of construction is a fascinating and challenging profession that allows workers to be creative, yet improve on their skills and abilities. The construction industry plays a major role in the construction of single dwelling homes as well as multi-dwellings designed for the comfort and pleasure of everyday living. Other aspects of construction include light commercial and commercial applications.

Construction Technicians are needed in all aspects of the construction industry including concrete and masonry, drafting and estimating, carpentry, finish, and trim. This ever growing industry relies upon the skills and talents of those constructing our futures.

Opportunities for long-term employment, consistent working hours, increasing job responsibilities and wages are available to those who enter this great profession. Construction is a skill that is needed worldwide.

Overview

The Building Construction Technology Program is a six quarter (18 month) program. Students are on campus participating in lecture/lab courses during all six quarters of their instruction. A key component of the program is building a new house from the planning stages to the final finishing touches.

All tuition, fees, books, required tools, and related costs are the responsibility of the student. See estimated cost list.

The Building Construction Technology Program at Southeast Community College is fully accredited by the State of Nebraska and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Upon successful completion of the program the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree.


Mission


Program Mission Statement:

The mission of the Building Construction Technology program is to provide comprehensive training in the field of construction, taught through the means of "hands-on" training applications with accompanying lecture, with the intent to provide the most up-to-date vocational/technical construction training available in c community college.


Program Goals:

The program goals of the Building Construction Technology Program are:

  1. Provide students with adequate technical training in the areas of concrete, masonry, carpentry, drafting and estimating, cabinet making and house construction that will enable them to succeed at entry level employment in the construction industry.
  2. Provide an effective training program that meets the employment needs of the residential and commercial construction job markets.
  3. Provide proper training for the operation of concrete and masonry tools, carpentry tools and processes, drafting equipment, and wood fabrication equipment.
  4. Provide students with a safe and healthy working environment that is conducive to learning.
  5. Provide the student with a strong foundation of construction materials and construction principles and methods.
  6. Provide the student with a strong foundation and experience with hands-on construction applications and processes that will allow them to succeed as an entry-level technician in the construction field.


Requirements

  • Complete an Application for Admission form and return it to SCC-Milford Campus. The students accepted for this class will be chosen on a first come first served basis. Complete and Submit Application for Admission – Milford Campus.

Student Responsibilities

  • Maintain attendance standards according to college policy.

  • Follow designated safety procedures while on campus.

  • Participate in all learning activities at the scheduled times, and complete and submit required assignments and projects by the required due date.
