Deere Construction and Forestry Equipment Tech Program

Welcome

Overview | Mission | Requirements | Student Responsibility | Cooperative Education |

Why not “BUILD YOUR CAREER AT SCC” in the Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment Tech Program! It is a program developed to train service technicians for Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment dealerships. The program is the result of a cooperative effort between John Deere Construction Equipment Company and Southeast Community College.

It is a seven-quarter program designed to teach students all facets of Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment; from backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, motor graders, scrapers, to articulated trucks. The students will be on campus the first two quarters (6 months) followed by a quarter (3 months) of work experience in a sponsoring Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment dealership. Quarters four and five will be on campus followed by another quarter of work experience at the student’s sponsoring dealership.  The seventh quarter will be on campus prior to graduation. Wages earned during these periods of work experience help offset the student’s educational cost.

We invite you to learn more about what this program has to offer.

  • Please contact us if you have any additional questions.

Overview

The Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment Tech Program is a seven quarter (21 month) program. The student is on campus participating in lecture/lab courses during five of those seven quarters. The other two quarters involve a unique opportunity for students to demonstrate the knowledge they have learned on campus at their sponsoring Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment dealership.

During these Cooperative Education experiences the student is paid; helping offset the costs of college. All tuition, fees, books, required tools, and related costs are the responsibility of the student.

The Deere Construction & Forestry Equipment Program at Southeast Community College is fully accredited by the State of Nebraska and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Upon successful completion of the program the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

Cooperative Education

Students at Southeast Community College are employed by area businesses and industries and have the opportunity to "learn whle doing" through the College's Cooperative Education Experience.

Students will work in positions related to their career goals. Student objectives are established through mutual agreement by the student, the employer, and the cooperative education experience coordinator.
Progress is evaluated at designated time(s) during the period of employment.

How Cooperative Education Works

Southeast Community College's Cooperative Education Experience is designed for students who have completed specific courses in their program of study and have achieved a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0.

Coordinators work closely with employers and students to determine the optimum Cooperative Education arrangement.

The student registers for the Cooperative Education Experience and earns college credit while being paid a salary for the cooperative experience; the salary is set by the employer and agreed upon by the student.

Cooperative Education Benefits

  • A unique opportunity to apply what is learned on campus to "Real World" situations in the student's sponsoring dealership.
  • The student will earn a wage which will help offset college expenses.
  • Regular Coop Ed visitations by program instructors to insure Student Success.
