Mission Dental Assisting Program
To meet a community need by providing an ADA accredited Dental Assisting Program that includes provides practice in dental offices and clinics and a planned course of study which will enhance the delivery of quality dental health care to the community.
Program Philosophy
The vocationally-educated Dental Assistant is playing an increasingly responsible role as a member of the dental health team. The effective use of the vocationally-educated Dental Assistant enhances the care provided by the dental team.
For the Dental Assistant to fulfill this role, it is essential to understand the theoretical concepts and principles from which techniques and procedures are developed. To become a competent practitioner, the student dental assistant must have opportunities to practice the skills and procedures over an extended period of time under the supervision of instructors, dentists, student dentists and dental assistants.
Knowledge and skills essential to develop proficient competencies among dental assistants have been identified. The student dental assistant needs opportunities to acquire this knowledge and these skills in appropriate clinical sites. We believe this can best be accomplished in a community college-directed clinical practice.
