The heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry manages indoor environments. The HVAC/R industry designs, builds, installs, services, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs indoor comfort and cooling systems year-round. HVAC/R is a necessity today for personal comfort, medical health, and food preservation.
The HVAC/R professions need technicians, installers, maintenance, and service people. Our world could not function without the skills and talents of the technicians who install and service equipment that makes our lives comfortable and our food safe.
The HVAC/R industry also offers variety, job security, respect, upward mobility, great salary, lifelong employment, and opportunity. HVAC/R professionals can use their skills in just about anyplace in the world.
HVAC/R is a high technology industry with constant innovations that contribute to making the equipment work better and more efficient.
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Program is a six-quarter (18-month) program. The student is on campus participating in lecture/lab courses during five of those six quarters. The other quarter involves an opportunity to “learn while doing” through the College’s Cooperative Education Experience. During this Cooperative Education experience the student is paid helping to offset the costs of college.
All tuition, fees, books, required tools, and related costs are the responsibility of the student. See estimated cost list.
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Program at Southeast Community College is fully accredited by the State of Nebraska and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Upon successful completion of the program the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree.
Program Mission Statement:
The mission of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Program is to prepare students for direct service in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning & refrigeration industry including the areas of installation, service technicians, maintenance, sales and design.
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Program Goals:
Students at Southeast Community College are employed by area businesses and industries and have the opportunity to "learn while doing" through the College's Cooperative Education Experience.
Students will work in positions related to their career goals. Student objectives are established through mutual agreement by the student, the employer, and the cooperative education experience coordinator.
Progress is evaluated at designated time(s) during the period of employment.
How Cooperative Education Works
SCC's Cooperative Education Experience is designed for students who have completed specific courses in their program of study and have achieved a grade-point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Coordinators work closely with employers and students to determine the optimum cooperative education arrangement.
The student registers for the Cooperative Education Experience and earns college credit while being paid a salary for the cooperative experience. The salary is set by the employer and agreed upon by the student.
