In 1941 the Nebraska State Trade School at Milford, Nebraska was created by the Nebraska Legislature. One of the first programs created was the Machine Shop Program. In 1973 the Nebraska Legislature created the Community College system which created Southeast Community College. At this time the Lincoln Campus of Southeast Community College was created also offering a Machine Tool Program. Today both campuses offer Machine Tool Technology featuring the same classes through their first four quarters and then specializing in separate focus areas during their last two quarters.
The Machine Tool Technology program provides curriculum and experience in tool and materials selection, blueprint-reading, measurement, and project layout. In addition to machine-specific training, students also receive a foundation in academic subjects useful in the manufacturing industry.
SCC provides instruction in the fundamentals of conventional machine operation, materials and manufacturing processes. Students practice skills on the College’s state-of-the-art machines, including Computer Numerical Control machines, CNC lathes, and milling machines, CNC wire feed and Ram-type electrical discharge machines. Laboratories provide valuable experience in computer aided drafting (CAD) using AutoCAD software, and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) using MasterCam.
Program Mission Statement:
The mission of the Machine Tool Technology Program is to educate and prepare students for gainful employment and to meet the needs of the manufacturing industries. The student’s education serves as a basis for advanced training.
The Machine Tool Technology program goals:
The program goals will be reviewed annually.
