SCC Golf Team Captures Region IX Title, Heading to Nationals
Another tournament, another tournament victory.
That's the story Southeast Community College's men's golf team continued to write as it won the three-day National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region IX Tournament at Scottsbluff Country Club.
The Storm, having won every tournament it competed in this season, cruised into the national tournament with a three-day score of 907, a whopping 31 strokes better than second-place Miles Community College of Montana. Central Community College was third at 944, while Dawson Community College of Montana was fourth at 992.
Luke Benford, a freshman from Hampshire, England, once again led SCC. He had a pair of 1-over-par 73s on Sunday and Tuesday, helping him take top individual honors. He finished the 6,951-yard, par-72 course in 6-over-par 222, three strokes better than runner-up Derek Hull of Central.
Three other SCC golfers earned top-10 finishes: Matt Vineer, a freshman from Hampshire, England, and Jordan Wise, a freshman from Lincoln (Northeast High School), tied for third at 229. Adam Dredge, a freshman from Valentine, was 10th with a 238. Brandon Schock, a sophomore from Beatrice, finished tied for 11th with a 239. He was in third place after the first two rounds.
Southeast will now prepare for a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament May 19-22 at Goose Pond in Scottsboro, Ala.
