SCC Offering Seminar on How to Self-Publish a Book
There are writers who keep a journal and scribble a few lines each night before bed, chronicling the day's activities.
Still others write to relieve stress and get their minds off every-day life.
Then there are the more serious writers who want to get their work published.
Regardless of the writer's position, Southeast Community College has a seminar that can help writers get published.
Peter Davidson, author and publishing industry consultant, will present a seminar titled "How to Self-Publish Your Book." The seminar will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at SCC's Continuing Education Center, 301 S. 68th St. Place, Lincoln. To register with credit card information, call (402) 437-2700 or go online to www.southeast.edu and click on Continuing Education.
The seminar will discuss traditional publishing, vanity publishing and self-publishing. Davidson will present everything writers need to know, including how to write, publish and market their book for children or adults, and whether it's fiction or non-fiction, a personal experience, a collection of short stories or poetry, an autobiography, a family history, or any other type of work.
The following topics will be presented:
Writing Your Manuscript, Copyrighting Your Work, Obtaining an ISBN Number, Designing Your Book, Finding a Book Printer, Calculating Costs, Marketing Your Book, and Avoiding Book Publishing Scams.
The seminar identifies potential advantages and possible pitfalls involved in self-publishing a writer's work and will help writers decide whether self-publishing is for them, a step that could save thousands of dollars in the process.
Davidson has been in the publishing industry for more than 30 years. He has written 24 books that have been published by McGraw-Hill Book Company, Perigee/Putnam Publishing, Haworth Press, and others. He authored the popular novel "Okoboji." His latest book, released in June, is "Murder in Okoboji."
Davidson has presented more than 500 writer's seminars and has appeared on more than 85 radio and television programs nationwide.
