SCC Offering Middle School Study Sessions at Beatrice Public Library

Southeast Community College's Continuing Education Division is offering two sessions this summer designed to help incoming middle school students gain study skills and other positive habits.

"Middle School Prep" and "Study Smarter (Not Harder) in Middle School" will be offered in the Sargent Room at the Beatrice Public Library, 100 N. 16th St., Beatrice.

"Middle School Prep" sessions, designed for students who will be in sixth grade this fall, are 9-10:30 a.m. July 14-15 or 9-10:30 a.m. Aug. 3 and 5. The July and August sessions are not together. Students register for either the July session or the August session. Cost is $15.

In "Middle School Prep," instructor Elizabeth Eckhoff will teach students study skills that will help them be successful in the sixth grade. The class will explain goal setting, how to get organized, and learning strategies and hints that can make a difference between just getting by and having good grades. Eckhoff has been an educator at Beatrice Middle School for the past 22 years.

"Study Smarter" sessions, designed for students who will be in seventh or eighth grades this fall, are 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 14-15 and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 5. The July and August sessions are not together. Students register for either the July session or the August session. Cost is $15.

In "Study Smarter," Eckhoff will assist seventh- and eighth-graders in establishing study habits that will help them be successful in middle school and high school. Techniques in reading, note taking and test taking will be discussed.
