To be eligible to become a citizen of the United States, a person must:
- Be 18 years old or older
- Have legally entered the U.S.
- Have been a legal permanent resident of the U.S. for five years or three years if married to a citizen
of the U.S.
- Have the ability to read, write and speak English
- Have the basic knowledge of U.S. history and government
- Have good moral character
