Requirements:
  1. Residency: Applicants must prove residency in Nebraska for 30 days prior to the date of application.

  2. 16- and 17-year-old applicants must get permission from the Nebraska Department of Education to enter the GED program. This includes:
    1. Visiting with SCC personnel and showing identification
    2. Providing an official high school transcript from the last high school attended
    3. Completing a notarized application to the NDE (this requires a photo ID)
    4. Writing a letter to the NDE requesting permission to enter the GED program
  3. Registration: There is a $20 registration fee. This fee covers all classes taken during our fiscal year which runs from July 1 through June 30.

  4. Orientation: Applicants must attend an orientation where students are introduced to the GED Program, provided with important information, and given an assessment to determine individualized needs for improving basic skills for the GED testing, work, or continuing education.

  5. Classes: Classes are offered on a quarterly basis. There is no charge for the classes. Classes are offered mornings, afternoons, and evenings at locations throughout the 15-county area. For more information on times and locations, call one of the numbers listed.

  6. On-line GED Preparation: Students interested in this class must register and attend an orientation. This option allows students to work at home or in an SCC computer lab on their own schedule. Regular online participation and correspondence with the instructor are required. To qualify for the class, a minimum education level is required and determined at orientation.

  7. GED Testing:
    1. GED Tests: Students are tested in Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science, and Math.
    2. Tests are administrated by an approved testing site. The tests are developed and regulated by the General Educational Development Testing Service in Washington DC. There is NO online GED testing allowed at this time.
