Reaching Master-level CIW certification requires extensive knowledge within a given subject area. CIW Professionals earn a Master CIW designation by passing all job-role series and programming language exams within a Master CIW track.

Master CIW Web Site Manager

Master CIW Web Site Managers can manage Web servers and maintain Web sites for small, medium and large enterprises. Master CIW Web Site Manager certification can lead to a successful career as a Webmaster, intranet or extranet Web administrator, or Internet project manager.

The candidate must pass five classes and required CIW exams* to become a Master CIW Web Site Manager.

  • CIW Site Designer
    (Course Number: LLBK1351; Exam Number: 1D0-420)

The CIW Site Designer exam validates human-factor principles in designing, implementing and maintaining hypertext-based Web sites using authoring and scripting languages, content creation and management tools, and digital media tools.

Design Methodology and Technology
This course teaches students how to create and manage Web sites with tools such as Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash, Dynamic HTML, and various multimedia and CSS standards. Students will also implement the latest strategies to develop third-generation Web sites, evaluate design tools, discuss future technology standards, and explore the incompatibility issues surrounding current browsers.

The course focuses on theory, design and Web construction, along with information architecture concepts, Web project management, scenario development and performance evaluations.

Target Audience: Web authors, marketing and communications professionals, PR professionals, Webmasters, graphic designers, desktop designers, technical writers, and library scientists.

  • CIW Server Administrator
    (Course Number: LLBK1352; Exam Number: 1D0-450)

The CIW Server Administrator exam focuses on server and network administration tasks and tools implemented by IT professionals. CIW Server Administrators manage and tune corporate e-business solutions and infrastructure including Web, FTP, news and mail servers, for midsize to large businesses. This certification validates knowledge and skills in configuring, managing and deploying e-business solutions servers. Topics include Internet System Management and Advanced Internet System Management.

Internet System Management
This course teaches foundational Internet services. Students learn user management concepts in Windows 2000 and Linux, configure Domain Name System (DNS) services, and Microsoft WINS, Samba, Telnet, and FTP. Students also learn about choosing appropriate Internet system platforms and receive training on how to calculate throughput, choose appropriate Internet connections and configure Windows 2000 Server and Red Hat Linux to use TCP/IP. By the end of this course, students will be able to provide essential TCP/IP services for any business interested in establishing an effective e-commerce presence.

Target Audience: LAN/WAN administrators, systems administrators, systems managers, intranet administrators, network engineers, and internetworking engineers.

Advanced Internet System Management
This course teaches students how to implement mission-critical services on the Windows 2000 and Red Hat Linux platforms. Students install and configure Web, newsgroup, e-mail and proxy servers; receive in-depth understanding of how to connect e-commerce databases to Web servers; and learn how to enable CGI on Windows 2000 and Linux.

Students also learn about backup and load balancing issues, and receive foundational knowledge concerning Internet security. This course is designed for personnel responsible for implementing real-world solutions for company intranets or ISPs that provide Internet Web services.

Target Audience: LAN/WAN administrators, systems administrators, systems managers, intranet administrators, network engineers, and internetworking engineers.

  • CIW JavaScript Fundamentals
    (Course Number: LLBK1355; Exam Number: 1D0-435)

The CIW JavaScript Fundamentals exam focuses on the language fundamentals and syntax of the JavaScript language for Web application development. A passing score on this exam validates proficiency in JavaScript code, which is recommended for those taking the CIW Application Developer exam, and required for those seeking Master CIW Web Site Manager and Master CIW Enterprise Developer certifications.

CIW JavaScript Fundamentals is not a job-role certification but a language theory requirement. CIW language theory exams qualify only toward completion of Master CIW certifications.

JavaScript
This course teaches developers how to use the features of the JavaScript language to design client-side, platform-independent solutions. Students learn how to write JavaScript programs, script for the JavaScript object model, control program flow, validate forms, animate images, target frames, and create cookies. Students will also understand and use the most popular applications of JavaScript.

Target Audience: Webmasters, software developers, application programmers, client/server developers, and desktop publishers.

  • CIW Perl Fundamentals
    (Course Number: LLBK1356; Exam Number: 1D0-437)

The CIW Perl Fundamentals exam focuses on the language fundamentals and syntax of the Perl language for Web application development. A passing score on this exam validates proficiency in Perl code, which is recommended for those taking the CIW Application Developer exam, and required for those seeking Master CIW Web Site Manager and Master CIW Enterprise Developer certifications.

CIW Perl Fundamentals is not a job-role certification but a language theory requirement. CIW language theory exams qualify only toward completion of Master CIW certifications.

Perl
This course teaches students how to fully utilize the Perl programming language. Students learn the Perl syntax, the basics of using regular expression, how to use Perl data types, and how to access and manipulate files. Students are also introduced to database connectivity and debugging techniques.
