About us

The Access Equity & Diversity Office at Southeast Community College provides guidance and leadership to the College in the development of a welcoming and diverse community of students, faculty and staff.

The office is responsible for providing oversight and support in complying with many of the federal and state regulatory mandates.

The resources of the office also are directed to working with not only the campus community, but also the greater community, to go beyond the minimum legal requirement to make Southeast Community College a place where each person’s desire to contribute to society, dignity, desire for personal growth, and accomplishment are respected.

Diversity Initiative

The Access Equity & Diversity Office oversees the College's Diversity Education Program

The program has been developed to enhance our knowledge, skills, and abilities in a number of areas:

  • Understanding the challenges of diversity at SCC
  • Preparing ourselves and our students to be part a multicultural society.
  • Acknowledging and eliminating racism, prejudice, and other discriminatory behaviors.
  • Recognizing the benefits of diversity in the workplace and student population.
  • Capitalizing on people’s different talents and abilities.
  • Creating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment in which to work and learn.
  • Learning about other ways of “thinking, being and doing.”

The College recognizes that diversity is key to educational excellence in the 21st century. Our commitment to diversity has had a positive impact on the retention of individuals from underrepresented groups and has contributed to employee satisfaction.

Diversity education for students, staff and faculty has also led to improved relationships on the campuses and increased satisfaction and involvement within the institution.   Additionally individuals have had the opportunity to grow personally and in their understanding and appreciation for others who are of a different race, color, gender, ethic origin, sexual orientation, or physical ability.

To learn more about some of our diversity education opportunities, see the materials located at the Activities & Programs page.
