Our Presence in the Community

The Access/Equity/Diversity Office has a history of collaborating with other departments and organizations at SCC to offer a diverse array of activities and events to SCC staff and students.

Some of our current collaborations include:

SCC Armchair Traveler Program:
In collaboration with the Global Education team, the office has introduced staff and students to the online database “CultureGrams” which offers reports for 190 countries and territories; each report includes 25 categories such as land and climate, history, personal appearance, greetings, gestures, family, diet, holidays, economy, education, health, and events and trends. Staff receives .5 hour diversity credit for reviewing a trio of select countries each month.

SCC Cinema:
From September to June, the office collaborates with the Lincoln Campus Media Center and the Milford Campus Media Specialist to show films contained in the audiovisual collection owned by the Access/Equity/Diversity Office. Staff are able to earn between .5 and 1.0 hour of diversity credit for attending the films shown each month. The titles in the collection are also made available to government, educational and non-profit entities in the Lincoln community for use in their own diversity education efforts.

SCC Speakers Workshops:
The Access/Equity/Diversity Office has also collaborated with the Office of Staff Development and supported diversity credit for speakers and programs presented to SCC staff.

Recent programs and speakers have included: Alash – Throat Singers from Tuva and the ACLU Freedom Files film series.
