All new students seeking admission to a Program of Study at SCC must complete an Application for Admission form. In addition, an applicant must:
- Request a copy of his/her high school or GED transcript be sent directly to the Office of Admissions.
- Request copies of official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions be sent directly from the institution to the Office of Admissions.
- Be assessed for readiness in basic reading, written expressions, and mathematics. Assessment in these three skill areas may be determined by:
- ACT scores
- Evidence of three semester hours or more of transfer credit from an accredited postsecondary institution with a grade of C or better in the areas of English or math or in a course which indicates reading ability
- Compass/Asset placement scores (Compass/Asset basic skills assessment is available through the Testing Center at no charge)
Placement in classes requiring proficiency in reading, writing and computational or algebraic skills is determined by the student’s college placement exam scores (ACT/Compass/Asset) and/or previous college coursework as verified by an official transcript.
General Recommendations:
Each school has the right to decide if it will accept classes in transfer and how those transferred classes will apply toward a particular degree. Therefore, it is very important for a student to work closely with an advisor from the school to which the student plans to transfer in selecting courses from the Academic Transfer program at SCC. SCC advisors can also assist with general recommendations for the undeclared student.
