Overview
Welcome to SCC’s Auto Collision Repair Technology program, an introduction to the collision repair industry that includes estimating, metal repair, welding, refinishing, and detailing. Students also have the opportunity to work on their own vehicles, giving them real-world, on-the-job experience. Upon completion of the program, students will qualify for one year of work experience required by Automotive Service Excellence for technician certification. Tools are required as part of the program. Click on the Estimated Costs link to determine those expenses. The program is accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Educational Foundation, 101 Blue Seal Drive, Suite 101, Leesburg, VA 20175, (703) 669-6125, www.natef.org. The program is ASE certified by the NATEF and was the first auto collision repair program certified in the state of Nebraska. The program also is an Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair-training alliance member, which qualifies students for I-CAR Gold Class points, making them more valuable to prospective employers. This is the only Auto Collision Repair Technology program in the state of Nebraska to offer I-CAR Welding Qualification Certification. Students gain the entry-level basics of auto collision repair and master the skills required for today’s structural and nonstructural body components.
Mission
The mission of the Auto Collision Repair Technology program is to provide graduates the education and experience they need to meet the entry-level requirements of the collision repair industry. The program also prepares them to continue their education and for advancement in the collision repair industry.
Job Outlook
Program graduates are working in small companies and Fortune 500 companies throughout Nebraska and the nation. Others have continued their education. The salary range for SCC graduates was $8.50-$14 per hour. SCC graduates have acquired positions that include collision repair technician, refinish and prep technician, insurance appraiser/estimator, frame technician, sales representative, street rod/auto restoration technician, and welder.
