Overview
SCC’s Computer Information Technology program offers hands-on training that leads students directly to employment in a computer career. There are four areas of career emphasis to choose from: Network Manager, Computer Support Specialist, Applications / Web Programmer. The Network Manager specialization trains students to set up, maintain and manage computer networks. The Computer Support Specialist is trained for technical support and help desk positions. The Programmer specialization provides intensive training in PC programming languages that are predominant in business and industry. The Web Applications Programmer specialization offers training for those programming behind the scenes of a Web site. The CIT program offers flexibility. Students can attend either full-time or part-time. Courses are available day, evening, and online. Online only students can complete the CIT program on a part-time basis.
Mission
The mission of the Computer Information Technology program is to prepare students for employment and/or advancement in computer support, programming, or network management.
Job Outlook
Almost every field (health, education, business, transportation and manufacturing) relies on computers and the people who make them work. Rewarding IT careers are available in every area of the economy. There is a market for people with IT skills in organizations of all sizes, and the outlook is expected to increase through at least the year 2012. Graduates report an average wage of $16.90 per hour with a high salary of $26.50 per hour.
