Overview
SCC’s Building Construction Technology program is a six-quarter (18-month) program. Students are on campus participating in lecture/lab courses during all six quarters of their instruction. A key component of the program is building a new house from the planning stages to the final finishing touches. Since the first house was constructed decades ago, students in the program have built more than 90 homes. The program is fully accredited by the state of Nebraska and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Mission
The mission of the Building Construction Technology program is to provide comprehensive training in the field of construction, taught through the means of hands-on training applications with accompanying lecture, with the intent to provide the most up-to-date vocational/technical construction training available in a community college.
Job Outlook
Employment is expected to grow about as fast as the average. In many areas, there will be competition for jobs, especially for those requiring limited skills. Laborers who have specialized skills or who can relocate near new construction projects should have the best opportunities. Graduates report an average starting salary of $12.60 per hour, with a high of $15 per hour.
