Welcome

SCC’s Computer Programming Technology program has developed a unique focus. We provide a multi-platform computing environment where students gain lab experience with IBM PC and web page applications, IBM System z (Mainframe) and IBM System i (AS400) applications. With a large number of current business applications residing on the mainframe, industry needs individuals who understand the existing system environments as well as new technology. With the presence of the Internet, businesses can now provide Web access to information on the System z (Mainframe) or System i (AS400) that was previously inaccessible to the consumer. With the wide range of programming experiences that our students receive, they are prepared to seek employment from a broad selection of career opportunities.

Location Offered: Milford only

Overview

SCC’s Computer Programming Technology program is a six-quarter program that offers students training from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day allowing degree completion in as little as 18 months.  Flexible scheduling is available. All programming language classes meet for one hour of lecture followed by at least one hour of lab. Students use the lab time to apply concepts and techniques in a real-time programming environment. The lab provides access to all offered platforms: IBM PC, the IBM System i (AS400) and IBM System z (Mainframe).  The following language courses are offered to our students: Visual Basic .Net, Java, JSP, RPG IV, COBOL, CICS, SQL, XML and HTML/Java Script.  The technical training curriculum centers on structured programming techniques, hands-on experience using the various programming languages and operating systems, and a team-based capstone project to design and implement a small-scale computerized business system.

Mission

The mission of the Computer Programming Technology program is to prepare students to meet the application program needs of business and industry, utilizing personal computers, midrange and mainframe systems and the web applications needed to integrate those systems.
