Program Requirements & Student Responsibilities

  1. It is not necessary for students to have a potential dealer sponsor at this point. Please contact the College regarding sponsorship. If any dealers are interested in sponsoring you, please indicate so on your application.
  2. Complete and submit the Candidate Application and return it to SCC’s Milford Campus. Students will be chosen for this program on a first-come, first-served basis.
  3. All applicants are responsible for scheduling an appointment to take the COMPASS test. John Deere pre-tests will be in the areas of writing, reading and math. ACT scores may be accepted. Please call SCC’s Milford Campus Assessment Office, 402-761-8202 or 1-800-933-7223, Ext. 8202 for an appointment.
  4. Applicants with satisfactory test scores will be contacted to proceed with their interview with a John Deere dealership. Those applicants who did not achieve satisfactory scores will be notified as soon as possible regarding their status and recommendations for correcting deficiencies.
  5. Students will be notified by mail whether they have been selected for the program. Those selected will receive additional information from SCC regarding registration and orientation.
  6. Obtain and maintain sponsorship with John Deere dealership.
  7. Attain a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in program courses to continue.
  8. Maintain attendance standards according to college policy.
  9. Wear uniforms and safety glasses while on campus and during cooperative work experience at the dealership.
  10. Participate in all learning activities at the scheduled times.
  11. Provide sponsoring dealer with responsible and productive employment.
  12. Be responsible for program costs: tuition, fees, books, and tools.

Program Goals

  1. Provide technical training in the area of John Deere Agricultural Equipment, specifically engines, tractor performance, power trains, hydraulic systems, electrical/electronic systems, heating and air-conditioning systems, fuel systems, tillage equipment, planting equipment, harvesting equipment, and agricultural management solutions.
  2. Provide an effective training program that meets the employment needs of the John Deere Agricultural Equipment Dealership.
  3. Provide students with safe working habits so as not to injure themselves, others, or personal property.
  4. Instill in the student a sense of punctuality and time management.
