Overview

Welcome to SCC’s Long Term Care Administration program. Developed in cooperation with many long term care administrators in the profession, this degree provides an excellent foundation for individuals who desire advancement in long term care or an administrative position. This program is online only and is one of the few programs of its kind in the United States that offers an Associate of Applied Science degree. General education classes may be taken online or face-to-face. An administrator is the chief executive responsible for planning, organizing, leading and supervising the operations of a home for the aged licensed by Health and Human Services. Specific duties include budget administration, personnel activities, supervision, public relations, leading regulatory changes, and facility management. Students will need to complete an administrator-in-training program according to their states’ requirements. This is in addition to the student’s degree and not part of the curriculum. After educational and the state-specific AIT program, the student will need to take and pass a national exam, National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards for licensure requirements. Some states will require a state exam.

Mission

The mission of the Long Term Care Administration program is to provide vocational/technical training for students who intend to enter gainful employment at the associate-degree level, and to provide the training needed for individuals who already have an associate’s degree or higher, to meet the minimum educational requirements to be an administrator in a long term care facility.

Job Outlook

While no specific data is available regarding the projected job trends for long term care administrators, the more general category of medical and health services managers indicates a positive trend for both Nebraska and the U.S. for this category.
