The medical assistant is an essential link between the doctor and the patient, providing support services in a variety of skill areas. The Medical Assisting Program includes instruction in office patient care procedures and basic laboratory techniques. Students learn office practices and receptionist or secretarial duties related to a medical environment. A medical assistant is an integral member of the healthcare delivery team. The many different roles that are assumed in the medical assisting profession assure a fast-moving and challenging career.

Overview
The Medical Assisting Program may be completed in four or six quarters. However, there is an option to complete the program in six quarters. Students are on campus participating in lecture and lab courses during three of the four quarters. The last quarter involves the unique opportunity for students to demonstrate the skills they have learned in an actual physician's office. All tuition, fees, books, uniforms, required equipment, and related costs are the responsibility of the student. SCC’s Medical Assisting Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board. Upon successful completion of the Program, the student will be awarded a diploma.SCC has an articulation agreement with Central Community College to complete an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting.
Mission
The mission of SCC’s Medical Assisting Program is to offer a broad foundation in basic medical assisting skills, including an opportunity for practical experience in the physician’s office. The Medical Assisting student will have the opportunity to acquire this knowledge and become competent in the various required skills under the guidance and supervision of qualified instructors.
