Overview
Welcome to SCC’s Fire Protection Technology program. We provide training and skills professionals need to face the constantly changing world of the fire protection industry. Fire service and related industries provide education about, prevention of, and suppression of fire for their communities. These industries also are involved in providing emergency medical care, specialized and technical rescue, response to terrorist attacks, and mitigation of hazardous materials releases. They also provide investigative services to determine the cause of fires and the costs to restore property after a fire has occurred. Trained professionals are needed to meet higher entry-level qualifications. They also need opportunities to increase their knowledge to prepare to accept greater responsibility and to meet the expectation of the general public. Students are on campus participating in lecture/lab courses throughout the 18-24-month program. All tuition, fees, books, firefighting gloves, hood, safety glasses, and uniform are the responsibility of the student. Firefighting protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus are provided for student use while in the program. The program is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Mission
The mission of the Fire Protection Technology program is to prepare students for entry into the fire service industry and to provide professional development for those already serving within the industry.
