Students are able to take placement tests in English, Reading and Math and some course tests or make-up tests in the Testing Center. SCC requires a placement exam that assesses a student's math and English skills prior to enrolling in any math or English classes. Accepted placement tests are Compass, Asset, ACT or SAT. The Testing Center provides the Compass/Asset test to individuals at no cost. Anyone desiring to take the Compass/Asset again will be charged $15. Individuals who wish to retake the COMPASS test must have completed additional study in the test area(s) that they did not pass the first time and be able to demonstrate that additional study to SCC Testing Centers staff before they will be allowed to retest. Individuals must wait 30 days between the first and second testing to allow adequate time to study in the problem areas and prepare for the second test. Individuals will not be permitted a second retest (third time of testing) until 30 days after the first retest (second time of testing).
No one will be given a test without a picture ID. You must have a picture ID or a current student ID card to take a test. Do not bring children or friends with you to the Testing Center. Cell phones, beepers, and any other electronic communication devices are not allowed in the Testing Center.
The Testing Center gives the following tests:
