Learn how to save a life. Help your community, fellow neighbors and friends. Emergency Medical Service courses will teach you how to render care for people experiencing medical emergencies, as well as how to give care to people who have been injured. Levels of training include Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic.

ll EMS courses can be held at off-campus sites. They can be customized to meet the training needs of your EMS departments, services or companies. All EMS courses offered by SCC meet the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards.

Emergency Medical Responder Course (EMR): Students will learn how to do an initial assessment on a patient who is in need of emergency help. This will include measuring their vital signs and communicating with dispatchers, law enforcement and other health care providers. They provide life-saving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and assist at the scene and during transport.

We also offer additional skill courses for EMRs.

    • Medication administration of aspirin and epinephrine by auto injector
    • Application of spinal and extremity immobilization devices
    • Patient transport devices and patient transport

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): EMT-Basics are the foundation of pre-hospital emergency medical care. For medical emergencies, they provide rapid response, initial evaluation and care and transport to an appropriate medical facility. They also provide transport between facilities for people who are bedridden and/or require continuous monitoring and care. In addition to customized classes, EMT classes are held routinely on both the Lincoln and Beatrice campuses.
