Programs of Study Home | Programs of Study | Fire Protection Technology | More About the Program More About: Fire Protection Technology Examinations Students in the program have the opportunity to take state certification tests for Firefighter I and II, Fire Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level in cooperation with the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division. Students will be eligible to test for National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic while in the program. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree. Internships The internship provides students with opportunities to utilize skills learned on campus in real world situations. Currently, internships can be arranged with the Nebraska State Fire Marshal and Lincoln Fire and Rescue. Goals Provide the student a safe, learning environment emphasizing good safety practices. Provide the student with hands-on experience utilizing up-to-date equipment. Provide the student with a strong foundation of the concepts of fire behavior, extinguishment theory, safe firefighting practices, and emergency medical practices to enter into and succeed in various areas of the fire service industry. Provide the student with a strong foundation of industry mandated knowledge, professional values, skills, and abilities for firefighters and other related professionals. Provide students who are already involved in the industry opportunities to enhance their professional development. Provide opportunities for the faculty to learn the latest developments, skills and abilities for fire protection related professions.
