  • Southeast Community College Continuing Education division provides a wide array of classes to improve custodial skills needed for today’s custodian. Our Custodial classes include theory and hands-on training provided by instructors that have years of experience and educational training. Our list of classes rotate annually to allow adult learners the opportunity to take Custodial classes that make sense and fit their scheduling needs.

  • Custodians are vital to maintaining the value of educational, healthcare and commercial buildings, the public image that those buildings represent, and the health and safety of the people using those buildings. During this 24-hour class, custodians will learn to become more efficient and effective in periodic cleaning, carpet care and operating floor-care machines.
    Custodians have important roles in preventing fires and emergency situations. To perform these roles, in this class they can learn to identify fire hazards in the workplace, operate common alarm systems, follow emergency protocol, and select and use fire extinguishers.
    Through discussions and exercises, you will learn more about communication, motivation and leadership models that you can use throughout your lifetime. Focusing on supervisor’s use of knowledge to build a positive environment that will save their organization money through increased employee engagement and lower employee turnover.
    Custodians have to perform tasks in a safe manner, especially when working alone after others have left. Participants in this course will learn about personal safety issues such as basic safety, personal protective equipment, infection control, blood-borne pathogens, and Materials Safety Data Sheets.
    You will learn how to establish a positive, productive work environment by clarifying productive supervisor—producer relationships, using good communication techniques and writing comprehensive work standards. This course is for new supervisors and those moving into supervisory roles.
    When used and maintained properly, tools and equipment can save custodians time, and make their work easier. In this class, custodians will learn about the proper maintenance and use of common power equipment such as floor machines, automatic scrubbers, and pressure washers.
