From the President

  • Southeast Community College is going through a number of innovative and transformative phases as the College continues to implement its 2015-19 Strategic Plan. Goal 9 of the plan includes an objective to “promote an efficient operational pace through effective organizational and academic calendars.” After a year-and-a-half of studying the activities and processes associated with converting to a semester calendar, the College received approval to convert its calendar system from both its Board of Governors and the Higher Learning Commission. The College’s Calendar Task Force has developed calendars for 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21. The College will officially be on a semester calendar system beginning the fall of 2019.

Dr. llichThe calendar conversion process will involve many changes in policies and processes, including curriculum, admissions, registration, advising, data management systems, marketing, and public information. The Calendar Task Force will be employing sub-teams to assist in the coordination and implementation of the necessary changes. One of the key components of a successful transition to a semester calendar will be the ongoing and transparent communication of activities, timelines and other information related to the conversion. The College’s Calendar Conversion Website will be updated regularly to ensure all impacted, including faculty, staff and students, are well informed throughout the conversion process. Everyone is encouraged to contact Stu Osterthun, Administrative Director of Public Information and Marketing, if you have questions or would like additional information (402-323-3401).

This is a very exciting time as the College continues its journey toward modernizing its facilities, processes and operations to maximize a positive and successful experience for our students and the communities we serve. Converting to a semester calendar will create many new opportunities for partnerships, collaborative efforts and other initiatives to facilitate fulfillment of the College’s mission and goals. Modernizing operational processes promotes growth personally and professionally. I greatly appreciate your support, energy and enthusiasm as we move forward with calendar conversion and the associated opportunities.
