  • Global Education Travel Abroad Trip to Kenya

    Southeast Community College Global Education is hosting a 10-day trip to the East African country of Kenya.  Join us as we visit the capital city of Nairobi, view the famous Rift Valley, visit the flower farms around Lake Naivasha, see the flamingoes and hippopotamuses at Lake Nakuru National Park, visit the town of Kisii, plant Blue Gum trees on the Gichana farm, visit the world famous Mt. Tabaka Soap Stone Quarries, and much more.

    Who can go?
    All SCC students who register for the Global Studies course GLST 2980, which will be offered in the Spring Quarter of 2016.

    When do we go?
    The trip is scheduled to take place during the summer of 2016.  The dates are Saturday, June 11 to Tuesday, June 21.  The trip includes stops in the capital city of Nairobi, Lakes Naivasha and Nakuru, and the town of Kisii.

    Why should I go?
    There are many wonderful benefits for Southeast Community College students:

    • To have an educational opportunity outside the classroom.
    • To experience sights, sounds, and tastes of Kenya.
    • To gain experience in working with people from another cultural and linguistic background.
    • To have hands-on learning opportunities.
    • To gain a better understanding of Kenya.
    • To travel with SCC faculty who will share their knowledge and experiences of Kenya.

    How much will it cost?
    The cost of the trip to Kenya will be approximately $3,400 which includes international airfare, in-country transportation, lodging, National Park entrance fees, service of a professional English speaking driver guide, a specially equipped safari vehicle with a pop up roof for photography, game drives as per the itinerary, government taxes.  Tuition and fees are not included in the cost of the trip.  All individuals going on the trip to Kenya must register for the GLST 2980 Global Studies course.  Tuition and fees for this course will be $278.

    There will be fundraising opportunities available to help reduce the cost of the trip.  In addition, three $200 Global Education Student Travel Scholarships will be available to qualified students.  To be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet the qualifications and be registered for the Global Studies course GLST 2980, which will be offered in the Spring Quarter of 2016.
