Michael Morris is currently the Central SENCAP
Coordinator for Southeast Community College. He taught vocal music for 34 years in Nebraska with the last 27 years
in the Crete Public Schools as the Director of Choral Music. He conducted the Concert Choir, Swing Choir, Cardinal
Choir, 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Choirs, taught music theory and directed the Spring Musical.
Michael's career in music education began in the Norfolk Public Schools teaching elementary music. He was the Choral
Director at the David City Public Schools for six years before serving Crete Schools. Michael has degrees from
Platte College in Columbus, his B.A. in Music Education and Masters of Education from Doane University.
Michael has received the "Extra Mile" Award from the Crete Board of Education and is in the "Who's Who Among
America's Teachers". In 2005, the Nebraska Music Educators Association selected Mr. Morris as the “Nebraska Music
Educator of the Year”. The following year, he received the “Educator of the Year Award” from Doane College. In 2013,
Doane College presented Michael the distinguished “Platt Music Alumni Award”. He is active as a clinician throughout
Nebraska and has served as the guest conductor for the Nebraska State FFA Honor Choir for ten years. He was also the
choir director the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music European Tour from 2001-2007.
Michael is a member of the Nebraska Choral Directors Association where he served on the executive board, American
Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education and the Nebraska Education Association.
Michael performs music professionally in bands and in musical stage productions. He and his wife Karen live in Crete
and have two adult sons and the most beautiful grandchildren in the world.
