2004 Grad Receives Distinguished Alumni Award

SCC's Dr. Dennis Headrick presents the Distinguished Alumni Award to Afton Hollertz Titus

Afton Hollertz Titus, a 2004 graduate of Southeast Community College, received the Nebraska Community College Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award Monday night during a ceremony in Kearney. Hollertz graduated from SCC with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

“When I talk about all my various roles in my career, they’ve all been so different, and all of it ties back to what I studied at SCC,” the Holdrege native said. “There were so many different subjects, and the curriculum is so broad it prepared me for everything.”

Hollertz was one of five alumni from Nebraska community colleges honored Monday night at the Younes Center in Kearney.

Hollertz started her career as an engineering detailer, then went on to be an outsourcing specialist at Store Kraft Manufacturing Company. She then spent five years as a continuous improvement engineer for Allmand Brothers, Inc. in Holdrege. She is now working as a quality analyst at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She is in charge of accreditation and making sure the facility is in compliance with state regulations.

When she was 28 years old she was featured in a “30 Under 30” article published in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers magazine. In 2014, she was selected as the Outstanding Alumnus Award during the Milford Campus commencement ceremony at SCC.

In addition to SCC, the NCCA is made up of Central Community College, Mid-Plains Community College, Northeast Community College, and Western Nebraska Community College. Each college selected its own Distinguished Alumni to receive the award at its annual meeting.
