Academic Integrity Week is January 9-13

This was last year's winning entry for the poster contest.

On Monday, Jan. 9, Southeast Community College will kick off its 2nd Annual Academic Integrity Week. Activities for students and staff will be held throughout the week at all three campuses in Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford.

“This week is a great way to talk to students, faculty and staff about how the College can promote a culture that supports doing the right thing in the classroom,” said Dr. Tammie Lang, chair of the Business Administration program at the Milford Campus.

Students can start the week off by making a pledge to maintain academic honesty. The campuses will offer different breakout sessions about topics such as exploring workplace ethics and cheating deterrents. SCC’s Academic Integrity team came up with the idea of a week of activities promoting academic integrity.

“As we prepare students to work in their chosen field, making sound, ethical decisions will better prepare them to be better workers,” Lang said. “We can also feel assured that our quality graduates are properly trained in how to do things the right way and avoid making bad decisions.”

Students will receive punch cards, and for each activity they attend, they will receive credit. Those will be exchanged for raffle tickets on Friday and enter them into a drawing. Employees are eligible for a $100 Visa gift card, and students at each campus are eligible for two $500 scholarships.

There also is a poster contest for students to create an illustration on what they view as “academic integrity.” The winner will receive a $200 gift card to the campus store.
