This is a sample of the bowls created by the SCC Art Department.
Southeast Community College's Art Department is upholding a
tradition that began in 2009 by providing handmade pottery bowls
for the annual Empty Bowls Luncheon in Beatrice.
The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 at
Classic's Restaurant, 1301 Oak St., Beatrice. Tickets are $25 per
person and can be purchased from Kristy Thies at 402-228-3333,
Patty Kaufman at 402-223-6398 or Peggy Johnson at 402-228-2456.
Tickets also may be purchased at the door or at Pinnacle and
Security First banks or the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce.
Proceeds will benefit the Beatrice Backpack Program to "help us
fill empty bowls of the needy," according to a statement released
by the program.
Attendees will receive a pottery bowl crafted by
Nelson Dungan from Beatrice High School, the SCC Art
Department, local potter Ervin Dixon at Cedar Creek Pottery,
Patrick McKinney at Flowing Stone Pottery, and Kathleen
Grossman at Down Under Pottery in Lincoln.
A variety of soups from fine restaurants and caterers in
Beatrice will be served.
Persons needing more information are asked to contact Nancy
Hagler-Vujovic, SCC art instructor, at 402-228-8256 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
