Students in the Ford Automotive
Student Service Educational Training program and Automotive Technology program at Southeast Community College’s
Milford Campus now have two new cars to train on: A 2018 Mustang GT convertible
and a 2017 Subaru BRZ coupe. SCC was approved last year to be part of the
Subaru U training program.
“It’s designed to allow
students access to Subaru factory web-based training in addition to their SCC
curriculum,” said Kevin Uhler, Automotive Technology program chair at Milford. “The
students could then earn some factory training credentials from Subaru while a
student at SCC. Although we are in the very early stages of this
implementation, Subaru contacted us to donate this car for training and to
build excitement for the program and the Subaru brand.”
Uhler said students will be
able to work on these cars until the vehicles are no longer relevant.
Practicing with the current automotive technology will better allow them to
work in the field after they graduate.
“These two cars in particular
build enthusiasm among the current and potential students,” Uhler added. “These
donations indicate the huge value industry puts on newly trained talent in the
technical fields. The demand is strong for trained technicians.”
SCC’s Lincoln Campus is
expected to get a Subaru as well. For more on the automotive programs, click on
