Cindy
Meyer, who has served Southeast Community College for 39 years as a coordinator in its Continuing Education Division, has been
hired as the coordinator of SCC’s Nebraska City Learning Center.
The
Center, located at 819 Central Ave., is now open and will begin offering
programming in the Fall Quarter, which begins Oct. 4.
“I
am eager and excited to assist students of all ages with a variety of
education-related questions and help improve their lives through knowledge and
discovery,” Meyer said. “I encourage folks to stop by to check out our new
learning center!”
Credit
and non-credit programming, as well as business and industry training, will be
offered at the Center, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday. Meyer can be reached at 402-323-3636. Persons wishing more information
can go to www.southeast.edu/nebraska-city-learning-center/.
More
than a year ago SCC’s Board of Governors approved plans to open six learning
centers outside of the three counties in which the College already had
campuses: Gage, Lancaster and Seward. The learning centers align with SCC’s
Strategic Plan that calls for the expansion of accessibility to programs and
services for all 15 counties of the College’s service area.
Nebraska
City, York, Plattsmouth, Falls City, Hebron, and Wahoo are the six communities
in which learning centers are being established.
Meyer
was born and raised in Nebraska City and is a 1976 graduate of Nebraska City
High School. Her husband Lynn and son Lance are farmers/business owners.
Her
parents were local business owners, so Meyer began to work downtown at a very
young age. She opened
her first business 15 days out of high school and ran three successful
businesses for 15 years. Meyer was the director of the Nebraska City Chamber of
Commerce for 10 years and also was employed by the Arbor Day Foundation
at the Lied Lodge & Conference Center.
