Two SCC students receive scholarships from I-NEDA

The Iowa-Nebraska Equipment Dealers Association has awarded $1,000 scholarships to two Southeast Community College students.

Brian Nieveen of Adams and Kevin Beethe of Table Rock each received $1,000 scholarships from I-NEDA as part of $53,000 given to students participating in the I-NEDA Matching Scholarship Program for the 2014-2015 school year.

"We are honored to award 54 students in Iowa and Nebraska with a scholarship of up to $1,000 each," said Andrew Goodman, President and CEO of the I-NEDA. "In addition, dealerships match the dollar amount given by I-NEDA, bringing the total amount of assistance up to $2,000 per student."

Nieveen is in the John Deere Tech program and is being sponsored by Stutheit Implement. Beethe is in the Diesel-Ag Equipment ServiceTech program and is being sponsored by Humboldt Implement Co. Both programs are located on SCC's Milford Campus.

Established in 2008 to address the shortage of dealership personnel, the I-NEDA Matching Scholarship Program helps members attract and nurture local talent aspiring toward management, technical, sales or administrative positions within a dealership.

Since its launch, I-NEDA's "dealer-driven" program has awarded 221 scholarships totaling $273,000 to applicants who have enrolled as full-time students in a "dealer-approved," higher education curriculum. Scholarships are then renewable for each subsequent year of the student's educational program, as long as the student remains eligible and the sponsoring dealership principal agrees to participate with matching funds.

The I-NEDA represents dealers and distributors of agricultural, construction and outdoor power equipment in both Iowa and Nebraska. Established in 1893, it is one of the oldest retail trade associations in North America assisting members with legislation and grassroots political efforts, manufacturer relations, education, industry information and promotion.
