Southeast Community College
and Youngstown State University are joining forces. The two schools signed an
articulation agreement so that students in SCC’s Long Term Care Administration
program can further their education at YSU.
“Both programs are offered
online, so students can continue their education through Youngstown State
University,” said Theresa Parker, SCC’s program director. “This puts a student in a
better position to meet their state nursing home administrator licensing board
requirements.”
Students would earn their
Associate of Applied Science degree at SCC and then complete their Bachelor of
Science in Applied Science degree with a major in Long Term Care at Youngstown
State University. Courses range from nutrition and nursing to accounting and
environmental regulations. Students will be prepared to handle a variety of
challenges in the LTCA field.
“The field of gerontology is
growing due to the increased longevity and the retirement of the Baby Boomer
generation,” said Dr. Daniel Van Dussen, professor of gerontology at
Youngstown. “This creates more opportunities to work with older adults.”
