New course designed to fill the need for qualified workers

In the next 25 years, southeast Nebraska’s manufacturers are projected to add more than 800 new jobs, according to the Nebraska Department of Labor. As a result, a new class at the Southeast Community College Learning Centers in Hebron and York is designed to help fill that gap.

“We’re very pleased to be able to offer some training that will help people position themselves for great manufacturing careers in southeast Nebraska,” said Marguerite Himmelberg, director of Client Solutions & Workforce Development at SCC.

The Manufacturing Technician Level 1 course is five weeks, meeting twice a week in York and Hebron. Students will learn a variety of manufacturing skills, including reading a blueprint, math calculations and common measurements using hands-on learning. Upon completion of the class, individuals are guaranteed an interview with several regional companies.

The class begins Feb. 26 and ends on March 28, 2019. It meets on Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $865, and the deadline to register is Feb. 15. Tuition assistance is available. For more information click here:
