SCC’s Jose Soto to accept award

Jose Soto to receive award from Women's Foundation of Lincoln & Lancaster County

Each year the Women’s Foundation of Lincoln & Lancaster County presents an award to a man who exhibits outstanding commitment on issues involving women. This year that award belongs to Jose Soto, vice president for Access/Equity/Diversity at Southeast Community College.

“To be recognized by the Foundation for my work in advancing equity, fairness and inclusion is an honor and further affirms my efforts regarding advancing women’s rights, which by their very nature are human rights and civil rights,” said Soto. “The award also confirms the importance of the values and principles instilled in me by some significant women in my life: my mother, my sisters, my daughter, and my wife who taught me that we have a moral obligation to ‘do the right thing.’ ”

The Erasmus Correll Award represents the life and legacy of the Nebraska journalist and statesman who long advocated for women’s rights. In 1882 he introduced a bill to submit a woman’s suffrage amendment to the state constitution, and campaigned unsuccessfully for its adoption by the voters.

Soto will receive the award on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Women’s Foundation of Lincoln & Lancaster County luncheon at the Lincoln Country Club. The “Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future” luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
