Southeast Community College’s
Noah Hofman finished in third place at 6-under at the NJCAA Division II Men’s
Golf Championship this past week at the GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, Alabama.
The Storm golf team finished in eighth place overall.
“We played pretty well, the
field was really loaded this year,” said Head Coach Bill Campbell. “Noah was
very close to winning it this year. He finished in the dark in Wednesday’s
round and then turned it around for a 7 a.m. tee off.”
Hofman, a McCook native, earned
his second First-Team All-American honor because of his top five finish. He finished
in second place last year. Campbell said he missed three putts by a total of
2.5 inches in the last three holes.
Campbell said the team played
well overall despite multiple weather delays including two during the third
round. “The team really responded well with our best round 294.”
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College claimed its first team
championship by shooting 9-under in the fourth round. The Bulldogs finished at
2-under to hold off MACJC rival Meridian by one shot, moving up two places on
the leaderboard to claim the title.
Parkland
College finished third at 1-over, and South Mountain was fourth at 2-over. It
was led by a 1-2 finish in the individual standings by Leon D’Souza and Jeffrey
Miller. D’Souza shot 69 to finish at 8-under for the tournament and win by one
shot.
The teams endured one final rain delay Thursday, breaking for
nearly two hours in the afternoon because of a thunderstorm. Fifteen teams took
part in the tournament.
