SCC donates leftover food to local non-profits

Food is ready to be delivered.

Southeast Community College’s grill and café has been closed since March 19 because of the outbreak of COVID-19. As a result, the grill had an overabundance of food left over. Over the past few months, employees have been delivering the food to local organizations such as the Lincoln Food Bank and the People’s City Mission.

“Being able to donate the food to the citizens of our community on behalf of SCC has been such a great experience,” said Shalaia Schrunk, chef. “The kitchen manager of the People’s City Mission was so grateful for the food to help provide sustenance to those in the shelter as well as those who are unable to stay there due to the Coronavirus.”

Donated items included produce, dairy products, snacks, frozen meats, salad dressings, frozen breads, pastries, desserts, and beverages. The value of the donated items is around $2,500.

“We know this food will be used to help those that need it most," added Schrunk.
