For the third year a “Giving
Tree” was put up at Southeast Community College’s Lincoln Campus for children
of Transitions and TRiO students. Around 53 children will be able to have a
happy holiday because of generous employees.
“I
want to thank all of the generous employees who came out to pick a tag from the
tree and purchase gifts,” said Shannon Brinkman, director of Tutoring and
Transitions. “We surpassed last year’s goal, which is always a good thing. This
is our way of celebrating our students’ achievements at the end of the
semester.”
Tags with suggested gifts
were on the tree for the past few weeks in the Transitions offices, and SCC
employees were able to select a tag off the tree to purchase the gift, wrap it,
and put it under the tree. The children picked up their gifts on Friday, Dec.
16.
“Thank you to the Giving Tree
for your generosity and giving my kids a great Christmas,” said Mary Burleson,
Transitions student.
The Transitions team helps
students improve their test scores and prepare them for college-level
coursework. TRiO is a federally funded program helping students who are first
generation, have limited income or are experiencing difficulties.
