SCC golf has strong third round

Noah Hofman and Domenic Vertuli enjoyed solid days on the golf course Thursday to help Southeast Community College move up the team leaderboard at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament.

Hofman, from McCook, carded a second-consecutive 2-under 69 and sits in fourth place heading into Friday’s final round. Vertuli, from Australia, shot 1-over 72 on Thursday and was tied for 17thentering the final round.

Kyle Murray of Beatrice (85), Kean Kontor of Lincoln (80) and Tyler Wagner of Beatrice (77) rounded out the scoring for the Storm.

Hofman’s round included two birdies on the front and two on the back, while Vertuli had one during each of his nine holes. Kontor had two birdies on the front, sandwiched around an eight on the par-4 fourth hole.

The tournament is being played at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
