The Southeast Community College Board of
Governors is seeking applications to fill a vacant District 4 seat on the Board.
James J. Garver, who had been a member of the
Board for 12 years (November 2007 to December 2012 and 2015 to present) died March
30. He was a member representing District 4 within SCC’s service area.
By statute, it is the responsibility of the
remaining members of the Board to fill the Board member vacancy created by Garver’s
death for the balance of the unexpired term. That term will end on Jan. 5, 2023.
The Board is seeking applications from interested
persons. In order to be eligible for appointment to serve as the member
representing District 4 on the SCC Board of Governors for the balance of the
unexpired term, an applicant:
Must be a registered voter;
Must have been a resident of SCC’s 15-county
service area for the prior six months;
Must have been a resident of SCC District 4 for
the prior six months;
Must continue to be a resident of District 4
following appointment;
Must not be an elected or appointed member of any
other board relating to education; and
Must not be an employee of Southeast Community
College.

Persons who wish to apply for this position
should complete and submit an electronic application. Applications must be
submitted and received by the end of the day on Friday, April 22, 2022, to be
considered. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
Interviews for candidates who are selected as
finalists will be conducted during a special meeting of the Board of Governors
on May 17, 2022, at the Dunlap Center on SCC’s Milford Campus, located at 600
State St., Milford.

The term of the person appointed to fill this
vacancy will expire on Jan. 5, 2023. The next term for this District 4 Board of
Governors seat begins on that date and is for a four-year term. Persons who may be interested in appearing as

beginning in January 2023 should contact the Nebraska Secretary of State’s
office for more information.
