What started as a project for a high school sewing class has turned into a stand-alone store at Gateway Mall.

Southeast Community College student, Hayley Stamper, was one of two winners of Gateway Mall’s “Battle of the Pop up Challenge” earlier this year. She won six months of free retail space at the Lincoln mall, where she displays her unique monogrammed clothing and hats under the name of h.flynn.

“It’s exciting having an actual store to try on apparel and getting to know the customers,” the 20-year-old said.

The boutique officially opened on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, and has seen a steady flow of customers ever since. People can buy customized apparel off the shelves or special order it to their liking. Stamper started the business in her parent’s basement and recently moved it to a downtown warehouse.

At the end of the six months she will decide if sales are enough to pay the rent at the indoor mall. Currently, most of her sales are online, where people can log into her website and custom-order the apparel.

Stamper is in the Business Administration program at SCC.
