SCC students place in top 20 at National SkillsUSA competition

Four Southeast Community College students placed in the top 20 of their categories at the National Leadership and Skills Conference held this summer in Louisville, Ky.

SCC students who received medals or finished in the top 20 were:

John Shaw, Stamford, second place, Motorcycle Service Technology.

Levi Thomlison, North Platte, third place, Welding.

Spencer Schoof, Oak, eighth place, CNC Technician.

Courtney Cuddeford, Hastings, 14th place, Welding Sculpture.

Advisors Dan Zabel, instructor and co-chair of SCC's Welding Technology program, and Randy Koch, instructor in SCC's Precision Machining and Automation Technology program, accompanied the students.

Shaw's second-place finish earned SCC a CVO™ Softail ® Deluxe motorcycle, donated by Harley-Davidson Motor Co. Each year Harley-Davidson donates a motorcycle to the school represented by the first-, second- and third-place finishers in the Motorcycle Service Technology category at national event.

SCC will use the bike as a training aid in its Motorcycle, ATV & Personal Watercraft Technology program. Two years ago SCC had the third-place finisher in the category and received a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
