Three SCC programs receive accreditation notices

Three Southeast Community College programs of study recently received letters from their accrediting boards indicating that they have met necessary requirements and will continue to be accredited or that the process to become reaccredited will continue.

Medical Laboratory Technology, Paramedic and Surgical Technology programs are the most recent SCC programs involved in the accreditation process.

Last spring the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences conducted a site visit to SCC’s MLT program. Accreditation for the program will continue until Oct. 31, 2020. As a result, the program will commence the continuing accreditation process with submission of the Self-Study Report on Oct. 1, 2019, and the scheduling of a site visit during spring 2020.

In addition, 25 institutions were recognized as clinical affiliates of the program. Janis Bible chairs the program, which is located on SCC’s Lincoln Campus.

The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions sent a letter of review to SCC’s Paramedic program, indicating that an earlier expiration date of Jan. 1, 2014, had been removed since Ryan Batenhorst, program chair, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in July from Bellevue University. The program, which is located on the Lincoln Campus, will now continue in the accreditation process and be placed on the schedule for a site visit.

The Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting reviewed and approved the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology implementation request submitted by SCC’s Surgical Technology program. The council commended SCC for its dedication to providing quality education to students, as well as its commitment to maintaining the national standard for surgical technologists. Sharon Rehn is chair of the program, which is located on the Lincoln Campus.
