Program: Coordinator, Continuing Education Division
Has taught at SCC since: 1977
Family: Born and raised in Nebraska City; 1976 graduate of Nebraska City High School; husband Lynn and son Lance are farmers/business owners.
Work: My parents were local business owners, so I began to work downtown at a very young age. I opened my first business 15 days out of high school and ran three successful businesses for 15 years. I was the director of the Chamber of Commerce for 10 years and have been employed by the Arbor Day Foundation at the Lied Lodge & Conference Center as the conference services manager since 2001.
Hobbies: From about ages 3-18, my family competed in horse shows/rodeos in the four-state area. I treasure those many years as it taught some very important life lessons from winning or losing with a smile, respectful competition, the value of working hard to be really good at something, responsibility of the care of the horses/equipment, and so thankful for the lifelong friends. I enjoy sports of all kinds. Much of my free time is spent playing cards with friends and family.
What is your favorite part of the job?
I love the fact that our classes help people get away from their daily routines. They get the opportunity to meet new friends, learn a new skill or hobby, or improve their health. I also enjoy providing a means for people to share their expertise/skill or talent as an instructor.
What topics would you like to find instructors to teach?
Technology trends and instrumental music classes (guitar or other). I’m open to consider topics that people in our area want to share.
What is your favorite class that you offered?
For the past several years, Don Belik’s Bob Ross painting classes have become very important to people in our surrounding area. His classes fill up every time, and folks are very eager to get signed up for the next one. It seems to be almost therapeutic for the participants. I love to walk into all of the blank canvases and come back at the end of the day to simply beautiful works of art!!
