Now that we have your attention, let us explain this one-of-a-kind day trip. Join Kelly and Nancy on an excursion to Omaha and the surrounding area for a day of thrifting and treasure hunting. Leave the driving to us because you will need to rest between all of our second hand and thrift stops. Remember, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure—who knows what you will find.

Trip requires a fair amount of walking. Tuition includes motor coach transportation and lunch. Registrations will be taken until enrollment limit is met. No refunds after Sept. 1. However, substitutions may be made through the CE Office. Be sure to include your email address on your registration form as confirmation letters will be emailed to each student approximately two week before the trip. Letters will include exact pick-up times, location and RSVP information. SCC staff tuition waiver does not apply.

American Quilt Society National Quilt Expo Bus Trip

The AQS Quilt Expo in Des Moines will feature more than 1,000 quilts, huge merchant mall with all of the latest quilt-making products and tools. Award-winning quilter Roxann O’Hare is the hostess for this fun day. Sit back and let us do the driving. Space is limited. Register early for this popular excursion.

Bring a small scissors or thread snips because we have prepared a great hands-on activity to keep you busy as we roll down the interstate. Once at the quilt show, you will be on your own for the day until 4:30 p.m., when we will be leaving for the Machine Shed for dinner on your own. We should arrive back home between 9 and 10 p.m. You will be on your own for meals and gate admission to the show.

Trips require walking and may include stairs. Registration deadline is Sept. 25 or when enrollment limit is met. No refunds after Sept. 11. However, substitutions may be made through the CE Office. NEW! Destination Day Trip: Wilber & Fairbury
Friday, Oct. 13, 2017

Join us as we hit the trail to our southern neighbors Wilber and Fairbury. Enjoy Kolaches and coffee in Wilber as we learn about the Czech capital. After a short ride, we will find fantastic Fairbury where we will tour the nationally recognized Endicott Clay Products factory and spectacular sculptures created by artists in the on-site studio.

Catered lunch and tour will be at the Historic Rock Island Depot, one of the two remaining brick Rock Island Railroad depots in Nebraska. We will round out our day by shopping the unique historic Fairbury downtown district that includes the award-winning Stagecoach Mall, the Campbell Bros. Circus Mural and much more. We will have a step-on tour guide in Fairbury who will share little-known secrets of this unique town.

Quilting Trip

Quilters, fabric lovers and fabric junkies, this is a trip for you as we make five fun stops for your fall getaway. Board the bus and let us do the driving to Quilts & Other Notions in Creston, IA; to Piecework’s, an old-fashioned Ben Franklin with novelty fabrics, and the Iowa Quilt Museum in Winterset, IA; and Creekside Quilting in Clive, IA. Your hostess for the trip will be avid quilter Liz Necker. Don’t wait to register as this trip will fill fast.

NEW! Driving Miss Daisy at the New Theater Restaurant

“Driving Miss Daisy,” this Pulitzer Prize-winning production, is a joyful, endearing play about a woman whose son, Boolie, believes she has a need for a chauffeur. Boolie hires a thoughtful, unemployed man named Hoke Colburn. At first, Daisy and Hoke dislike and do not trust each other. During the next 25 years they manage to become very dear friends. The dignified, good-natured Hoke is able to break down the ornery old lady’s defenses with his warm sense of humor, and she teaches him to read and write. Starring Michael Learned (best known for her role as Olivia Walton on “The Waltons”) and co-starring Reginald VelJohnson (best known as Carl Winslow of the hit sitcom “Family Matters”). Tickets are limited, so don’t wait to register!

NEW! Dinner & a Show: Forgotten Carols

Join us for our annual holiday “Dinner and a Show!” B’s Diner in Louisville will provide a tasty lunch before heading down the road to the Lofte Theater in Manley for the production of “Forgotten Carols.”

A straight-laced nurse cares for an elderly patient who believes he has been alive for 2,000 years and has actually met some of the ‘forgotten’ people from the holiday story. You will laugh; you will cry and you will raise your holiday spirit.
