Southeast Community College serves a 15-county area of southeast Nebraska and is governed by an 11-member Board of Governors, two each elected from five districts, plus one at-large selection.
The College has campuses in Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford. Other locations within the district include a facility in downtown Lincoln and a continuing education center and entrepreneurship center, also in Lincoln.
Nearly 11,000 students enroll at SCC annually, plus an additional 20,000 take noncredit classes through the College’s Continuing Education Division.
The College offers 50 programs of study, most technical in nature, and awards the Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Diploma, and Certificate. Ten programs can be completed entirely online. Academic divisions are Agriculture/Food/Natural Resources, Arts and Sciences (transfer), Business, Communications & Information Technology, Community Services & Resources, Construction & Electronics, Health Sciences, and Transportation & Manufacturing.
Members of SCC’s faculty are experienced in their fields, and many have worked in industry. Numerous faculty members hold doctorate degrees, while a large number hold master’s degrees.
SCC has an outstanding reputation among employers within Nebraska and surrounding states. Each year more than 90 percent of SCC graduates find work or continue their education.
After submitting its Self-Study Report to the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 2012, SCC was granted the maximum continuing accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission’s Institutional Actions Council. The next Reaffirmation of Accreditation for SCC is scheduled for 2022-2023. The College will issue a progress report to the HLC in 2017 regarding assessment of programs and general education student learning outcomes as detailed in the evaluation report.
The College’s revenue comes from local property taxes, state aid and student tuition. SCC’s Board of Governors ensures that the College remains the most affordable higher education option in Nebraska, a ranking that has held true for many years.
